TaylorMade R9 460 Driver

TaylorMade R9 460 Driver
A quick glance at the TaylorMade R9 460 driver will make you realize that it looks strikingly identical to its predecessor the original TaylorMade R9 driver.

However, a closer look will show you that the R9 460 comes with a larger head combined with a deeper club face. Along with that, it also has a lower and a center of gravity or CG located deeply at the back of the club. This may not sound like a huge difference but with this design, the R9 460 driver is able to deliver greater MOI or moment of inertia…which means greater forgiveness as well as higher spin rate.

This will come handy for players who have a low-spin to keep the ball in mid air for a longer time resulting greater carry and driving distance.

After getting my own TaylorMade R9 460 driver, I decided to test it for 4 rounds and see if it really lives up to the hype. Guess what – on the first round, I was able to hit 14 out of 14 fairways with the TaylorMade R9 460 driver…all thanks to the 60-gram Aldila RE AX shaft. This shaft fits my swing like a glove!

For the next 2 rounds, I missed a couple of hits…BUT overall, I was hitting more than usual, even better than my original TaylorMade R9 driver. While I enjoyed the original R9 driver, its upgraded brother – the R9 460 delivered better and my game went up by a mile!

Just like any driver, though, there are a couple of things that are bothering me with the TaylorMade driver releases. First and foremost – the headcovers, which are included in their latest drivers. It’s boring and drab…not something you would expect from one of the most creative and innovative driver manufacturers around. This can easily be dealt with by buying and putting a fun headcover.

The next quibble I have with it is the grip. However, just like the first issue, this can be easily fixed by getting a $5 grip. None of these quibbles are deal breakers in my opinion.

Overall, I would say that the TaylorMade R9 460 is a fine addition to the R9 line of golf drivers that TaylorMade can stand proudly with. I’m keeping this golf driver in my golf bag!
